From learning about technology to building it

For years, we have encouraged young people across Africa to prepare for a digital future.

 

Learn to code.

Learn robotics.

Learn artificial intelligence.

Learn engineering.

 

These skills matter. But there is a bigger question we need to ask:

 

What if young people were not only taught how to use technology, but also given the tools to build it?

 

At STEMAIDE Africa, we believe practical experience is a vital part of STEM education.

 

A learner should not only read about a robot. They should be able to build one, programme it, and watch it move.

 

They should not only learn about sensors in a textbook. They should be able to connect a sensor, collect data and see what happens in the real world.

 

They should not only study aviation principles. They should have opportunities to explore flight systems, telemetry and autonomous technology.

 

And when learning about AI and connected devices, they should be able to work with real hardware.

 

That is the thinking behind our next chapter.

 

On Wednesday, 16 September 2026 at 12:00 PM GMT, STEMAIDE Africa will officially unveil four new hands-on STEM learning products designed to help learners move from theory to practice.

Meet CODER PRO, ROVER, PILOT, and AIDER.


 

CODER PRO — Build advanced systems

Learning to code becomes much more powerful when learners can see their code control something in the physical world.

CODER PRO is designed for students who are ready to move beyond simple programming activities and explore more advanced electronics and engineering projects.

The platform brings together microcontrollers, sensors and C++ programming to help learners understand how software and hardware work together.

Through practical projects, students can develop skills in:

Microcontroller programming

Electronics and sensors

C++ programming

Systems integration

Problem-solving and engineering design

CODER PRO is designed with Senior High School and TVET learners in mind, giving students a practical pathway towards more advanced engineering and technology skills.

The goal is simple: turn coding from something learners read about into something they can use to build real systems.


 

ROVER — Learn robotics by building and moving

For many young learners, robotics becomes exciting the moment a robot actually moves.

ROVER is designed to provide an accessible introduction to robotics and coding through hands-on learning.

Learners can programme the robot using visual block-based coding and explore how instructions, motors and sensors work together.

Instead of only looking at diagrams of robots, students can experiment with a real machine.

ROVER introduces learners to concepts such as:

Basic programming

Mechanical movement

Motors and control

Sensors

Obstacle navigation

Problem-solving

The kit is designed for Basic School and Junior High School learners, helping younger students build confidence with technology from an early stage.

Most importantly, ROVER makes learning active.

That cycle of building, testing and improving is at the heart of practical STEM education.


 

PILOT — Explore aviation and flight engineering

Africa's future in aviation and aerospace will depend on young people developing the skills to understand, design and work with advanced technologies.

 

PILOT allows learners to explore some of the technology behind modern flight.

 

The kit introduces concepts including aviation principles, telemetry, autonomous systems and UAV flight controllers.

 

It is designed to support learning around areas such as:

 

Flight systems

Aviation technology

Telemetry

Autonomous flight

UAV technology

Aerospace engineering

 

For Senior High School learners, PILOT provides a practical way to connect classroom learning with real engineering concepts.

 

It also opens the door to conversations about the future of aviation in Africa — from unmanned aerial vehicles and data collection to engineering, logistics, and other emerging applications.

 

The aim is not simply to teach learners about aircraft.

 

It is to help them understand the technology that makes modern flight possible.


 

AIDER — Explore the physical foundations of AI

 

Artificial intelligence is often presented as something that exists entirely inside software.

 

But AI also depends on something physical: computers, sensors, data, and connected systems.

 

AIDER is designed to help learners explore this physical side of AI and connected technology.

 

Powered by the Raspberry Pi Pico 2 W, AIDER brings together connected microcomputing, real-time sensors and edge-data telemetry.

 

Learners can explore how devices collect information from the world around them, process data and communicate with other systems.

 

Through hands-on projects, AIDER can introduce concepts such as:

Artificial intelligence

IoT systems

Sensors and real-time data

Edge computing

Connected devices

Data collection and telemetry

 

This gives learners an opportunity to move beyond simply using AI tools and begin understanding some of the technology and systems that support intelligent applications.

 

The future of AI is not only about software. It is also about the devices that sense, process and respond to the world around us.
